Update on the energy costs of our Hamam

The development of the energy costs of our hammam.

Our hamam is also strongly affected by the current developments on the energy market.

Fortunately, the energy refurbishment of the chocolate factory has already been going ahead since 2019. Through these measures, CO2 emissions can be significantly reduced.  Other planned measures include electricity production on our roofs and the reduction of energy demand in the hamam through new technology.

Our hamam obtains electricity and heat from our cooperative Schokofabrik eG, which operates a combined heat and power plant (CHP). The CHP provides heat and electricity at the same time, so that the higher costs for gas can be distributed over both energies. This internal Schokofabrik cooperation puts the Hamam in a more favourable position than companies that have to buy electricity and heat separately.

However, this CHP is also run on gas, so unfortunately the energy costs are still expected to multiply here. The cooperative has concluded a long-term contract for gas supplies, but the "ancillary costs" of this purchase are currently changing daily. Measures such as the gas levy, the reduced VAT or the CO2 levy influence the actual price of energy. Therefore, the actual price development cannot currently be planned for the future.

Unfortunately, we will have to pass on the cost increase in the energy sector as well as the considerable cost increases in all other areas, e.g. from the purchase of goods to personnel costs, to our customers. It remains our goal to keep hamam visits affordable for as many people as possible.

Our Hamam is part of the Women's Centre Schokofabrik e.V. Our income is used exclusively to pay our expenses, to maintain the Hamam and to finance the charitable areas of our association.
